Ships clocks are one of the
most popular maritime items since they can be admired and
provide a real function in the home. Mostly they have 7 day
clockwork mechanisms, and while some have the traditional
bells striking the hours, more are silent and most have double
springs to make them both robust and accurate. Clocks used
in the Radio Office are interesting as they have a 4 minute
segment painted on the dial to remind the operator not to
transmit during this time, only to listen for distress calls...a
lesson put into force after the Titanic disaster.
Prices range from £165 to £295 |
