This form of fishing targets specific species, such as bass and mullet.

A shoal of bass or mullet is sighted, the net is shot with a weight at one end and the vessel is either rowed or motors around the shoal of fish to where it was shot and both ends are hauled together so the fish are caught in the middle. Nets of varying depths are used depending on depth of water the fish are in. Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay close in shore are generally favoured places.
